Two arrested after armed police called to Ashford

A second man has been arrested on suspicion of firearms offences after armed police were called to Ashford .
Emergency services descended on Monkton Close in Stanhope at midnight yesterday following a report of a disturbance involving two groups.
Armed officers attended the incident following reports that a suspected weapon had been heard during the altercation.
A 20-year-old man from Ashford was arrested a short time later, and has been released on bail until October 21.
Later on the same day, a 24-year-old man from the area was also arrested, and he remains in custody while investigations continue.
Police say all of the people involved in the altercation are believed to be known to each other.
A catapult and some blank rounds of ammunition have been recovered as part of the ongoing inquiries in to the incident.
