A couple have today been reunited with their beloved pet 20 days after she was stolen from kennels.
Louise Pepper and Matthew Newing were on holiday in Cuba celebrating Louise's 30th birthday when they learnt the shocking news their black cocker spaniel, Peg, had gone missing.
The eight-year-old pooch, who has white speckles, was being looked after at Courtfields Kennels, in Great Chart, which is owned by Tony Steel, when she was taken.
Now, nearly three weeks later, the trio have been reunited after Peg was discovered nearly 50 miles away.
Miss Pepper said: "She was found wondering the streets in Lewisham! Goodness only knows where she has been for the last 20 days!
"The dog warden picked her up, checked her chip and let us know."
Peg was picked up straight away and is now back at home - albeit a little heavier than before.
Miss Pepper, a chartered financial planner, added: "She is a bit larger than when we left her so she has obviously been fed well.
"She probably thinks she has been on an adventure over the last few weeks."
Thieves are understood to have snatched Peg on June 21, just days after the couple had jetted off for their exotic break.
They breached fencing and cut through bolts at the kennels to get to her.
Following the raid, Miss Pepper, of Magpie Hall Road, Stubbs Cross, said: "When you go on holiday you worry about missing your flight, or getting ill, but you don’t think your dog will be stolen when you're gone.
"But we're just so pleased she is home."
