Strange red lights appear in night sky at Camber Sands

10:50, 15 August 2017

A family on holiday at Camber Sands have been left amazed by unexpected lights they spotted whilst waiting to see Saturday's meteor shower.

Mark Tinsley and his two daughters were all set to watch the meteors when they spotted the strange red lights.

Mr Tinsley said: "At about 10pm, while we were going to look for meteors, we spotted about ten bright red lights in the sky.

"About three of them came right over us, they weren't in formation.

He continued: "The lights were super bright and quite low down and they were moving quite quickly - too fast for a plane but they definitely weren't meteors.

"There was no noise or flashing lights so it couldn't be a plane, if it was a type of aircraft you would hear it, and there were too many of them."

The Perseid meteor shower takes place every year around July and August time. The meteors peaked - when they are most visible - on Saturday where you could see anything from 60 to 100 meteors fall per hour.
