A pile of fly-tipped rubbish has at last been removed from on a retail site more than a week after it was dumped.

A sofa, toy car and bags of what was believed to be asbestos were among some of the items dumped on Gallagher Way next to the Gallagher Retail Park, off Norman Road.

The park hosts Currys PC World, Pets at Home, Halfords and Harveys Bensons for Beds.

Around 20 bags, which looked like they may contain a type of broken corrugated asbestos, were first seen next to the road on Monday, February 20 by a concerned reader, who said some of was on the road and ‘being crushed to powder’ by lorries.

Further along the road, more waste could be seen collected close to a field.

Tim Porter, regional facilities manager at Colliers International, said they were aware of issue: “Colliers International is managing this site on behalf of Gallagher Retail Park.

“Our contractors attended the site on Wednesday, March 1 and collected the items that had been fly tipped, as per our health and safety procedures.”

An council spokesman said: “We have been made aware of the fly-tip on the Gallagher Industrial Estate.

“The waste has been left on private land therefore it is the landowners responsibility to remove it and lawfully dispose of it.”
