Residents and businesses in two villages have been left without water after taps ran dry.

South East Water has opened a bottled water station for locals in Challock and Molash, near Ashford.

The firm posted about the incident on its website at 2pm today.

The bottled water station at Challock Village Hall will be open until 9pm tonight.

If engineers are unable to restore supplies by the morning, it will be open again at 8am tomorrow until 7pm.

South East Water said in an update shortly before 7pm today: "We're continuing to work on restoring your supplies, and will continue to work on this overnight."

The company also said the continuous hot weather and significantly increased demand for water has put a "significant pressure" on its network.

Meanwhile, residents in a Kent town were left without water for the second time in less than 24 hours.

Southern Water has worked to resolve an issue causing low water pressure and a loss of supply in Broadstairs.

Isle of Sheppey residents were left without water for days this week after taps ran dry.

Meanwhile, the Met Office has warned of travel disruption and that people's lives could be at risk as temperatures are expected to rise further.
