Brazen thieves have been branded ‘disgusting’ after stealing from a special school.
Teachers at the Wyvern School in Ashford were left “in tears” while the school was counting the cost after parts of a marquee meant for the pupils were stolen.
The school’s head teacher, John Somers, said the theft was “outrageous”.
“We hired the marquee to host a special project for the pupils with the Primary Shakespeare Company and Confidance.
"We were really excited to get going but when we came back from the weekend we found that the marquee had been partially stolen.
"It looks like someone drove up to the gates, cut the lock and stripped as much as they could.
"I'm not an expert but it looks like they did it without much preparation as they had to use bins to stand on to reach as high up as they could."
The theft has been reported to the police but the school is now left having to try and find an alternative solution for pupils.
"We've got to try and sort something out for it," Mr Somers said. "But we're not sure what we can do. We're loathe to rent another one."
The theft could also leave the school owing thousands of pounds, as the marquee was not insured and Mr Somers said this made the feeling even worse.
"It's absolutely outrageous," he continued.
"My business manager was in tears.
"We just can't believe someone would do something like this."
"This wasn't ours to begin with and even the company we hired it from said they've been operating 28 years and they've never had something like this.
"We just can't believe someone would do something like this."
If anyone knows of someone who can help the Wyvern school, send an email to mailbox@wyvern.kent.sch.uk.
Police have been contacted for comment.
