An Arsenal fan, who suffered a brain injury after being hit by a car, has described his epic trip to Azerbaijan to watch the Europa League final.
Elliot Russell, 15 and from Ashford, was whisked off to the county's capital Baku last week to watch Arsenal play Chelsea.
And although Chelsea triumphed, winning 4-1, it was still a memorable trip for lifelong Gunners fan Elliot.
During the trip he met with ex-Chelsea and Barcelona legend Deco.
Elliot, who was accompanied by mum Jade Harrison, his aunty Leah Kirtay and cousin Rio Kirtay, has been on the long road to recovery after suffering a brain injury when he was 12 years old as a result of a car accident.
Initially Elliot struggled to see and speak, couldn’t walk on his own, suffering severe memory loss so much so that he didn’t recognise his own parents.
Following months of recovery and support from The Children’s Trust, Elliot is now feeling much better and enjoying life.
Dalton Leong, chief executive at The Children’s Trust said: "Sport plays a crucial role in children’s development, and that’s the same when they come to The Children’s Trust for intensive rehabilitation following a brain injury.
"Many of the children that come here want nothing more than to be able to play sports and games with their friends again, so we use that to motivate them and help them to relearn lost skills, whilst having fun.
"This is an incredible opportunity for Elliot and his family."
His trip to Azerbaijan was funded by Kia Motors, an official sponsor of the Uefa Europa League.
The car company has been partnered with The Children’s Trust since 2017, working together to raise money and awareness for children with brain injuries.
Paul Philpott, president and chief executive of Kia Motors UK, added: "We’ve worked with The Children’s Trust for a number of years now and have seen first-hand the importance of giving back to the community.
"It is a privilege to host Elliot and his family at the Uefa Europa League final."
