Tesco customers faced lengthy queues in Ashford yesterday due to a computer problem with the tills.
The glitch, caused by an overnight computer update, affected the stores’ main tills but did not affect self-service checkouts.
Tesco was unable to say whether all three Ashford stores, Park Farm, Crooksfoot and Mace Lane, were affected.
The statement said: "We appreciate this may have been frustrating for customers and are very sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused.
"The problem affected some tills in some of our stores for part of the day. The problem is now fixed and we are confident that stores are returning to normal."
The problem affected about 100 of Tesco's 2,184 UK stores.
