Ashford: Kennington Garage broken into but thieves only get £3
11:15, 09 November 2017
Thieves broke into a family-run garage in the early hours - but only got away with a measly £3 and a box of chocolates.
Police are investigating after the Kennington Garage in Church Road was targeted at about 2am.
Thieves swiped a till after smashing their way through a double-glazed window facing Burton Road to get into the site.
Owner Edward Crouch, whose garage is open as usual, said: "It is really annoying but they only got about £3 and a box of Matchmakers a customer left us.
"We don't leave notes in the till and there was only a little bit of change left in it.
"We haven't had anything like this happen for years - I am very surprised because we are alarmed and it did go off.
"They must have got in and out very quickly."
Any witnesses should call police on 101, quoting crime reference ZY/55072/17.
