British rock band Toploader are set to open the 2014 Ashford Create Music Festival.

The four member band - famed for their smash hit Dancing in the Moonlight - will play live at St Mary’s Church as part of the Saturday Night Sound Check.

The one-off, ticket only, event is being sponsored by Su and Chris Bailey, owners of Right Track Music.

They said: “We are really excited to get Toploader for Ashford, as well as pleased to increase our support in Ashford’s growing live music scene.

“Our stage at Create Festival will showcase some of the best young and grass roots musical talent in the area. We hope our investment in the Saturday Night Sound Check -and getting the likes of Toploader to come and play here - will take the festival to a whole new level.”

Last year, the independent music shop and school sponsored The Charlatans front man Tim Burgess to be part of the Create celebrations.

Toploader was formed in 1997 and is made up of Joseph Washbourn, Dan Hipgrave, Matt Knight and Rob Green.

The band, who have released albums Onka’s Big Moka, Magic Hotel, Dancing In the Moonlight - The Best of Toploader, Magic Hotel and Only Human - were the last British band to play the original Wembley Stadium.

They will launch the beginning of the Create Festival when they take to the stage at the town centre church on Saturday, July 26 at 7pm.
