Traffic chaos as M20 junction lights fail
00:00, 27 September 2007
RUSH-hour traffic at junction 10 of the M20 ground to a halt on Wednesday morning.
Queues of cars and lorries at the Ashford junction were left at a standstill because of traffic lights.
A spokesman for the Highways Agency said: "It was found that one of the junctions’s 13 sets of lights were staying on red.
"We sent an engineer out to repair the fault and we apologise for the inconvenience caused."
Queues of traffic could be seen on several routes coming into the junction. Cars and lorries going clockwise on the roundabout appeared to be at a complete standstill.
Other vehicles, such as those coming off the M20 London-bound carriageway and going towards Ashford town were able to gradually squeeze through gaps in the traffic.
