Ashford: Elwick Road work causing traffic disruptions

09:55, 14 September 2017

Just weeks after Kennington Road was re-opened, another traffic project in Ashford town centre is still causing disruptions.

The project, which began on September 4 and is due to last for 12 weeks, will alter the structure of the junction so the left hand lane, as you head north over the railway bridge, will be for only turning left onto Elwick Road.

Although there are no road closures and temporary traffic lights that mimic the existing phasing, so there would only be 'minimal disruptions', the left hand lane heading north over the railway bridge has been temporarily closed.

This means that motorists using the road to travel into the town centre are being delayed by about 15/20 minutes in rush hour due to slow-moving traffic that are having to filter into two lanes instead of three.

Some mornings the traffic has backed all the way to the Designer Outlet and motorists are continuously block the Victoria Way, Beaver Road and Avenue Jacques Faucheux, causing delays in all directions.

The pedestrian crossings in the area will also be getting an upgrade, with push buttons added to the central reservations and the crossing points will be staggered.

It is expected that the work in the area will be completed by the beginning of December.
