Southeastern posted about the incident on Twitter shortly before 3.30pm.

In a statement, the company said: "A person has been hit by a train between Maidstone East and Otford, meaning the line is currently closed.

"As the emergency services attend to the incident, trains running between these stations may be cancelled, delayed or diverted via Paddock Wood."

Disruption was initially expected to last until at least 9pm, but Southeastern issued an update at 7.30pm to say the line had fully reopened.

Trains may still be revised or cancelled.

Power to the lines had to be switched off to allow the emergency services to deal with the incident.

No trains could run on the Maidstone East Line between Maidstone East and Otford into the early evening - with a "very limited service" operating between Maidstone East and Ashford.

It comes after another person was taken to hospital after being hit by a train earlier today.

Services between Tonbridge and Tunbridge Wells were halted following the incident, but had returned to normal by 2.30pm.
