Friends and family gathered in Ashford for a special day of football held in memory of Danyl Ponsford, who was killed in a town centre crash.

Twenty-six teams in total took part in the six-a-side tournament on Saturday which was organised by Danyl’s former captain and close friend Mike Pegg.

The all day event - held at the Towers School, in Faversham Road - raised more than £1,000 which will be given to the Ponsford family to help pay for a memorial to Danyl.

Mr Pegg said: “Despite the horrendous rain, the tournament went well, with over £930 being raised.”

A further £130 was raised from a collection which was started by the Ball Lane Soccer League. This was handed to Mike, bringing the total to £1,060.
