A trucker has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving after a 75-year-old died following a crash.
On Thursday, the A21 London Road and A268 Hawkhurst Road in Flimwell, east Sussex, were shut following the accident.
The crash prompted significant traffic delays in neighbouring Hawkhurst, west Kent, while emergency services worked at the scene.
Today, officers said the victim was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident and the lorry driver was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.
A spokesman for Sussex Police said: “The driver of the HGV involved – a 57-year-old man from Rye – has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and released under investigation as enquiries continue.
“A section of the road was closed overnight to allow for forensics investigations, and the public are thanked for their patience and understanding.”
Police say the next of kin have been notified and urged witnesses to come forward.
Anyone with dash cam footage who travelled along that stretch of road around at the time of the collision has been asked to come forward.
