Two year groups have been told to isolate for two weeks after a child tested positive for Covid-19.

A Year 6 pupil from Victoria Road Primary School in Ashford has contracted the virus.

Normally, only students and teachers from the same 'bubble' would have to isolate following the diagnosis, but both Year 6 and Year 5 students have been sent home.

This means that a total of 55 pupils and eight teachers are now self-isolating.

Head teacher Lisa Davis said: “Unfortunately, we have had a confirmed case of Covid-19 within our school community.

"My staff and I followed Public Health England (PHE) guidance and as a result, 55 pupils and eight members of staff in the Years 5 and 6 bubbles will now self-isolate at home for 14 days, until Sunday, October 4.

"The school will send work home and staff will support pupils in continuing with their learning remotely.

"I would like to thank our pupils, parents and carers and my staff for their ongoing support and hard work at this time.

“The rest of the school remains open with staff and pupils continuing to follow PHE guidance in terms of social distancing, handwashing and cleaning to minimise the spread of the virus and ensure pupils and staff can continue to learn and work in a safe environment.”
