This was the scene after an old van ended up precariously perched on its side on a busy main road.

Toyah Atkins-Bidwell was a passenger in a car travelling in the opposite direction when she saw the van in Chart Road near the tank roundabout in Ashford.

She said: “I was just on my way from Singleton into town when I saw it. There was a man walking around to the side and he seemed fine.

“The police were just turning up as well. It was not something you’d expect to see, because it’s a straight bit of road. I didn’t see how it happened, I was only just passing by.”

Police are believed to have attended the scene yesterday lunchtime, but it remains unclear how the van lost control.

It is also not clear whether the man standing beside the van is the driver or owner or whether anyone was hurt in the incident.
