Vandals remove 28 drain covers from roads in Lydd
17:00, 18 June 2013
Dozens of drain covers were tampered with in a bizarre spate of vandalism in Lydd last night.
A total of 28 metal covers were removed from their fixings in Greenways, Vinelands and the Derings - and then left at the side of the road or placed down the drains they were covering.
Officers are also investigating two reports of damaged cars in the area where scratches were found on the paintwork.
It is believed the damage took place at some time overnight into the early hours of today.
Sgt Jasmine Bloomfield, from Kent Police, said: "What may have been a prank to some could have ended in serious injury or worse to a pedestrian, motorist or pet.
"These covers have not been stolen, but they have been tampered with while a number of vehicles have sustained damage."
Anyone with information about the drain covers or the damage to the vehicles is urged to phone Sgt Bloomfield at Kent Police on 101, quoting crime reference ZY/16836/13.
