A non-league goalkeeper has become an internet sensation when video of him headbutting the post after conceding a goal went viral.

Ashford United forward Adrian Stone pounced to turn the ball in to the net off the post after a penalty smashed back off the bar.

But what Cray Valley goalkeeper Jordan Carey did next has made him an online celebrity.

As the Ashford players celebrate making it 4-2 in their Southern Counties East Football League Premier Division clash on Saturday, Carey vents his frustration by smashing his head several times on the upright.

The third-eye footage was posted this week by the Ashford United Supporters group.

Cray Valley, who play in Eltham in south east London, tweeted about the video joking that the club is now famous.

Carey tweeted: "Anyone know a way to get a dent out of a goalpost?"

Ashford fan Benn Phillips, who was at the game, said: "It's gone absolutely crazy. We're literally gobsmacked.

"I had a message from ESPN and [Sky Sports show] Soccer AM have put it on their social media and will be showing it on Saturday.

"We only put it on as a joke to start with and only expected a couple of hundred people to watch it.

"We reckon through the social media sites it's probably been seen by three to four million people."

Mr Phillips, who helps to run the Ashford United Supporters page on Facebook, said they had not realised what had happened live as they were celebrating the goal.

When they did they posted it on their page and people from as far away as Brazil, Portugal and Croatia have joined the page.

Ashford went on to win the game 5-2 moving them to the top of the table.

Stoke and England goalkeeper, Jack Butland, tweeted to Carey after it was shared on Soccer AM.

Mr Phillips added: "Jordan Carey, the keeper, has been in touch with us and is buzzing about it.

"We didn't notice it at the time and was only until looking back at the video on Sunday evening.

"What makes me laugh is the reaction of the people behind the goal - who are Ashford fans."
