Video footage shows the cause of the A20 diesel spill in Charing, Ashford
13:00, 15 June 2017
A CCTV video appears to show the vehicle behind the diesel spill yesterday morning.
The video, from Charing Motors, shows a truck about to leave the service station on the A20 Ashford Road, when it appears to hit a pole and rupture the oil tank.
The driver, who was unharmed in the incident, then drives off towards the main road appearing to be oblivious to the diesel pouring out of the vehicle.
The diesel spill caused chaos along the A20 Ashford Road with Kent Highways ruling the spillage as 'severe'.
The road's lanes had to be closed in both directions for around four hours in order for Highways England and Kent Fire and Rescue Service to clear the mess.
A spokesman for Charing Motors said: "We had to completely close the forecourt and it took about three hours to clean it all up.
"We got through a lot of washing up liquid and then used granules to soak it all up.
"The driver was fine and we're now open again as normal."
