No further action will be taken against a Kent woman who was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving and kidnapping following a fatal crash.

The 27-year-old from Kent remains in hospital with serious injuries after the vehicle she was in crashed in Peterborough on May 26.

The collision, which occurred at 1.40am, involved a Mercedes Sprinter and a Vauxhall Astra.

One of the Astra's passengers, Alexander Edney from Aldershot, died at the scene while its other occupants - the Kent woman and a 35-year-old - were arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and kidnap. Both were taken to Peterborough City Hospital.

Kathryn Watkins, the 35-year-old, was later charged with causing death by dangerous driving, causing death by driving a vehicle while uninsured, failing to stop and common assault.

But today police said they would be taking no further action against the 27-year-old who remains in hospital.

Three men aged 24, 37 and 41 were also arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender but have since been released under investigation.

Cambridgeshire Police are still appealing for information about the crash or video footage.
