A closed art materials factory in Ashford now lies nearly completely empty after its contents were sold in an online auction.

The Letraset factory, on the Kingsnorth Industrial Estate, closed earlier this year and all 31 employees were made redundant.

The business, which was acquired by French company the ColArt Group in 2012, had been making graphic art materials, industrial marking equipment and toys since the 1960s.

The sale, which included an auction of machinery and other items used in the manufacturing of graphic transfers and web printing, was overseen by Jackson Philips Asset Solutions.

Managing director Philip Jackson said: “The auction was a great success. Everything sold."

As well as viewing the items online, potential buyers had the chance to visit the factory in Wotton Road to see them.

In total, 48 buyers bought items in the three-week online auction. Mr Jackson added: “We won’t know a total of how much was made, but I would say it was a considerable amount.”

The decision to close the site was made in March, with work trasnferred to other ColArt factories in France and China.

The future of the Letraset site is uncertain.
