A motorist has been arrested on suspicion of drink-driving after reportedly being stopped travelling in the wrong direction on the M2.
Police have hailed Highways Agency staff as heroes after they stopped their own vehicle in front of the oncoming driver to bring them to a halt.
Officers tweeted: "They very bravely put their own vehicle in the path, stopping the car. They undoubtedly saved lives."
A 34-year-old Maidstone man was arrested on the London-bound carriageway of the M2 between junction 3 for Rochester and junction 2 for Chatham at about 2.15am.
He remains in custody.
