Suspected rogue traders told householders in Dymchurch and Littlestone they had used a helicopter to check their roof

Two suspected rogue traders told householders they had used a helicopter to check their roofs.
They claimed they had flown overhead to see which properties needed loft insulation.
This is one of a number of cases of suspected cowboys, offering to fix and renovate roofs reported in Dymchurch and Littlestone.
Now police are warning people to be on their guard from rogue traders.
PCSO Mandy Kimpton said: “It is possible that those offering the work may have acted honestly and legally.
“However, sadly it is often elderly or vulnerable people who are duped into getting work done that they simply do not need.
“Rogue traders may carry out substandards work, which may not even be finished and which often costs individuals far more money than they were led to believe.”
Kent Police has urged residents to use the following safeguards:
Do not deal with doorstep callers offering work on your home or garden.
Check that the tradesperson is from the company they say they are from.
Always get written quotes and compare them to prices elsewhere.
Remember that trades must give your written notice of your right to seven days’ cancellation when agreeing to work on your home including jobs gained from a cold call.
Call 101 to report any problems involving suspected rogue traders or call Consumer Direct on 08454 040506.
