A young woman had to be cut free from her car before being taken to hospital after a four-vehicle crash on the M20 yesterday evening.

Police, paramedics and the fire service rushed to the smash near junction 9 of the London-bound carriageway around 6.50pm.

The woman in her 20s was taken to the William Harvey Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries to her arm.

A SECAmb spokesman said: "She was taken in as a priority but was fully conscious en route to hospital."

Two fire engines were sent to the scene and crews removed the woman from the car on a spinal longboard before passing her to paramedics.

A police spokesman said there were no other reported injuries.

He added: "The carriageway was partially blocked until the vehicles were moved/recovered."
