KENT running star Lisa Dobriskey is on track for selection for the World Junior Games in Jamaica in July after storming to a qualifying time in the 800m at the Bedford International Games.

The talented Ashford AC runner from Littlestone, near Hythe, smashed Julie Rose's club record and her own personal best by nearly two and half seconds in taking second to experienced senior Jo Fenn in 2:05.02.

But her best route to Jamaica could still come in the 1500m and she hopes to make that qualifying time when she takes on a world class field, including Kelly Holmes, in the Commonwealth Games 1500m trials at Manchester on June 16.

"I don't expect to make the team against that sort of company," she said, "but I hope they will push me along to a time of about 4:15 which would be inside the qualifying time of 4:18."

She has already run 4:19 this season but has been in scintillating form, slashing away at her personal best in her last four outings on the track.

She stressed: "I was quite nervous at Bedford as I was the second slowest on paper in the field, but I stayed in about third and probably with a bit more experience should have gone a bit earlier. It would have been nice to duck inside 2:05."

She still has to do it again in the AAAs championships back at Bedford at the end of the month as only the winner gets selection automatically and only two will travel to Jamaica. Three girls, including Lisa, are in the sort of form to claim the places which is why she could also try for the 1500m place.

"I will have to talk to the UK Athletics selectors and see what they recommend," she added.
