Eight athletics club members picked for county squad

EIGHT Ashford Athletic Club runners have been selected for the Kent Schools team to compete in the English Schools cross country championships at Chelmsford on March 9.
They are Sorrel Hunter in the junior girls, Ryan Glendenning and Matt Dawson in the junior boys, Lauren Fawke and Alice Ragouzaridis-Clark in the intermediate girls, Andy Welch in the intermediate boys and Kira Fawke and Lisa Dobriskey in the senior girls.
Lisa probably won't be taking up her place in the team as she is likely to be in Portugal getting some warm weather training with the Great Britain squad ahead of her debut in the World junior cross country champiuonships in Dublin.
In addition Ashford's Stevie Langford had been chosen to represent Kent in the Inter-Counties Indoor Sports Hall championships in Guildford this Sunday.
Alice was the only Ashford runner in action at the cross country nationals at Bristol on Sunday enjoying the atmosphere of this big occasion.
She ran in the Under-15 girls group over a four km course and was just outside the top 100 of a field of more than 230 in 101st with 19:06.
n BETHERSDEN School is hosting their five mile road race starting a finishing from the school on March 9 from 2pm.
It is a flat and picturesque rural course which has recorded some very fast times.
