Field made a great start in cold, slippery conditions, and was 18th at the end of lap one.

He maintained the position, before improving to 14th on the final, before a crash cost him seven places.

It's Field;s best result at an Elite championships and the best result by a British rider in the last decade.

The performance tops an impressive British season for the Ashford rider, having won the National Trophy for the first time and retaining the British Championship for a fourth year running.

Field also finished 12th in the UK Round of the World Cup, the best-ever result by a UK male rider.

He is continuing to ride for the Hargroves Cycles team this season, but has a new bike sponsor, Ridley Machines.
