The home teams pulled off a stunning inter-county athletics double at the Julie Rose Stadium, Ashford, claiming both the men's and women's trophies.

Kent's men notched up a record total of 415 points going over 400 for the first time, while the women wrapped up their fine win with the last event of the day, with Kirsty Morrison leading them to a fine javelin double.

It was a top quality contest all round with a number of fine performances including doubles for Kent in the shot with Greg Beard and Mark Davies and the javelin for Simon Carter and decathlete Darren Hatton.

Chris Sleeman had a storming day. Just edged out in the 200m by Colin Wilson he bounced back to take the 400m hurdles in a Kent double and had a terrific run as Kent 4x400m men swept to victory, holding off Middlesex.

Stars of the victorious women were winning 400m double Nicky Bowring and Sam Singer, Morrison's 51.15 in the javelin and Carly Burton's fine B wins in the discus and shot and rising young pole vaulter Natalie Olson with 3.60m while Sussex's Lucy Webber winning the A event with a 4m leap.

Another rising young Kent star Lisa Dobriskey maintained her development, just edged out in the final straight by close rival Lucy Vaughan from Hampshire in 2:04.66.
