Speedway legend Barry Briggs visited the county twice in three days last week – and raised £1,000 for Great Ormond Street Hospital and cerebral palsy charities in the process.
The four-times world champion took part in a 70-mile sponsored green lane motorbike ride, along with former F1 driver Mark Webber, last Thursday, which started and finished at the Kent Gliding Club near Charing.
Then, on Saturday, the 79-year-old New Zealander was guest of honour at a special evening at the Southcliff Hotel in Folkestone to celebrate his career.
Graham Hurry, one of the organisers, said: “It was a wonderful evening and we’ve had some fantastic feedback from the people who attended. We are hoping that we will raise around £1,000 for Barry’s two chosen charities.”
