Tommy Warrilow has warned his Ashford players not to take Herne Bay lightly on Saturday.

United are riding high in Bostik South East, sitting second on the back of six straight wins.

By contrast, second-bottom Bay have shipped 13 goals in their last three games and 65 in total this season.

But they stunned promotion-chasing Hastings 4-1 only last month so Warrilow knows the Nuts & Bolts must be wary.

He said: "Someone could get smashed 7-0 one week but I don't look into it because that's what this league's been about.

"They beat Hastings and then lost heavily but I know they're a good side.

"We've just got to do what we've been doing and make sure we don't get complacent because we've got to keep our run going.

"They blow hot and cold whereas we've got a bit of consistency. If you can get that in this league, you can see what'll happen to you.

"To win one, lose one, draw one, you don't know what you're going to get.

"Look at Greenwich Borough. They got a good draw after we played them so it really is about making sure we do the right things on the day and turn up with the right attitude."

Ashford didn't have a league game last weekend but they filled the void with friendlies against Welling Town and Folkestone Invicta.

Warrilow said: "There's competition for places now. We've been getting results and playing well but you're always looking to better things.

"Some of the boys that have been out for a while have a chance to stake a claim and the team I pick won't necessarily be the same one that finished the last game."

Ashford are now 16 points behind leaders Cray while Hastings, in third, are just a point back.

"It's still very tight," Warrilow said. "We've got 12 games left so there are 36 points to play for and there's not 36 points between us and sixth spot.

"Until it's whittled down, I'll just keep my head down and keep looking forward.

"Hastings dropped another two points on Saturday but all the teams below them won so it's crunched up again.

"For us, the next half-a-dozen games are important so we'll try to chalk off the wins.

"We've got a massive April but I don't mind that because we're in control of our own destiny. As a team, that's what you want.

"We want to have a good February as well as March and I want to have a really April as well.

"The phone's been ringing with players interested but I don't want to disrupt it too much.

"I'll be looking to strengthen nearer the transfer deadline because that's when we'll know if we're in the play-offs."
