A surprise duo have been appointed as Ashford United’s interim management team.
The Isthmian South East Nuts & Bolts moved quickly to name Alan Walker as their new boss until the end of the season, Kevin Watson having left after their 1-0 weekend home win over Littlehampton.
Former Gillingham and Sittingbourne defender Walker, who hasn’t been in management since 2010, will be assisted by ex-Dover coach Darren Hare. Hare left Faversham earlier in the year after being part of Sammy Moore’s backroom staff.
Walker and Hare watched United’s match against Littlehampton.
An Ashford club statement on Sunday read: “Ashford United Football Club can this evening announce that Alan Walker will take on the first-team management role until the end of the season.
“Darren Hare joins Alan as his assistant manager.
“We would like to take this opportunity to welcome both Alan and Darren to the club, and wish them both the very best for the remainder of the season.”
Ashford are also subject of a takeover, with owner Don Crosbie expecting to complete a deal to sell the Homelands club by the end of May.
Walker and Hare begin life with United, who are 11th, with three successive away fixtures, starting at Burgess Hill tomorrow night.
Now 64, Walker has previous managerial experience at Sittingbourne, Fisher Athletic, Tonbridge and Maidstone.
