KENT schoolgirl Gabi Taylor is making her mark in the testing sport of sabre fencing. The 11-year-old is currently ranked third in the country in her age group.

Gabi, from Sheldwich, near Ashford, who goes to Springrove School in Wye, qualified for the British championships representing the South East after a tough qualifying competition.

Then at Stoke on Trent she showed her class in the nationals, finishing a superb third against older and bigger girls in the Under-12 age group.

Gabi took up the sport after a demonstration at her school and now trains regularly with a club in Canterbury.

During March she has been invited to compete in Poland in a junior international.
