A man has been charged after officers were racially abused, spat at and kicked following a police chase.
Metropolitan Police are appealing for information after five of their team were left with injuries following the incident.
On Sunday, July 12, a silver Vauxhall Corsa collided with a lamppost and green Fiat Punto in Bromley Road, Bromley, at around 5.30pm.
The driver of the car attempted to flee but was stopped by several of the Met's Territorial Support Group.
The officers were punched and bitten, which resulted in the driver being put in leg restraints and a spit guard.
He was taken to hospital for treatment to injuries he received in the collision, but continued to be aggressive and made racially abusive comments.
The man was arrested on suspicion of aggravated vehicle taking and driving away, assault on police, drink driving and a racially aggravated offence.
Officers who dealt with the incident suffered large cuts, bruising and scratches during the assault.
Now, the force is asking for anyone with dashcam or mobile footage to come forward.
DC Alan Jones, who is leading the investigation, said: “I know members of the public were in the vicinity and will have seen this incident.
“Officers were attacked by someone who was trying to flee the scene of a serious collision and I am asking those who were present to send us in any footage they have.
"It will help our investigation and ensure that the person responsible for this faces justice.”
