Erith shooting: Further arrest made in Kai McGinley murder investigation

A man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a 24-year-old was shot and killed.

Kai McGinley, from Southwark, died last month following a shooting in the street in Erith, Bexley.

Officers from Met Police and paramedics from London Ambulance Service were called to Pembroke Road at 8.50pm on Thursday, February 9, after reports of shots being fired.

They found Mr McGinley suffering from a gunshot wound and he died at the scene.

Yesterday (March 16), officers investigating the murder arrested a 23-year-old man on suspicion of murder and he was taken to custody where he remains.

There have been three other arrests as part of the investigation into Mr McGingley's death.

Last Thursday (March 9), a 16-year-old girl was arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender and a 53-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to murder.

Both have been bailed pending further inquiries.

A 17-year-old man was also arrested on suspicion of murder and attempted murder but was released with no further action.

Four people have also previously been charged in connection with the shooting.

Enriko Spahiu, 20, of Elmhurst, Belvedere, and Jalees Selby-Gangera, 18, of Woodfield Close, Erith, were charged last week with murder and attempted murder.

And Connor Brooks, 20, of Horsa Road, Erith, and Bradlee Reeve, 33, of Chapman Road, Erith, were both charged with murder and two counts of attempted murder on Saturday (March 11).

A plea hearing is scheduled for May 30 with a trial date scheduled for January 3, 2024, both at the Old Bailey.

Inquiries into the circumstances are ongoing.
