Human remains found in an area of woodland are believed to have belonged to a middle-aged man.
Met police officers attended the rear of a property in Main Road, Biggin Hill, near Bromley, following the grim discovery.
A spokesman from the force said: "Early indications show that the remains may have been present in the wooded area for a number of years.
"It is believed the bones belong to a male who was middle-aged or older.
"It is possible that the male had health and/or mobility issues. Ethnicity cannot be determined at this stage. There are no indications of trauma."
Forensic specialists and specialist police search officers from the Met's South Area Command Unit carried out an extensive investigation of the scene.
A post-mortem was held yesterday and DNA testing is to take place.
The crime scene is now closed.
