A man seen with a slashed face prompted police to cordon off a road in Bexleyheath this evening.
By the time officers reached Townley Road just before 7pm the injured man left the area in a car – although he later turned up at hospital.
Police taped off a section of the town near the Broadway Shopping Centre between Caffè Nero and the library, with gym users left working out at a fitness hub within the cordon escorted out by officers.
A Met spokesman said: "Shortly after 7.10pm a man self-presented at a south London hospital with a slash injury to his face. His condition has been assessed as not life-threatening."
Inquiries are ongoing to establish the circumstances of the incident and anyone with information is asked to call 101 quoting CAD 6665/19May. To remain anonymous contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
