The incident happened on on Friday night and shortly before midnight, police received calls from several concerned residents about the large gathering.

Officers from Met Police say between 60 and 80 people were present and many revellers dispersed as soon as police arrived.

A second group was found hiding in a room and were all told to leave and followed instructions.

The organiser, a 35-year-old man, was identified and advised he would be facing enforcement action.

Under coronavirus regulations, the man now faces a fine of £10,000.

Chief Insp Neil Jeffs of the South Area Basic Command Unit said: “This was a blatant attempt to breach the coronavirus regulations and the behaviour of the organiser in this instance was unacceptable.

"While some of the crowd left immediately, others tried to hide in a room in a forlorn attempt to evade officers.

"We will continue to take tough action against those who selfishly fail to respect the regulations which the majority of Londoners have followed admirably.”
