The building, which was once a cinema and became a swimming centre in the 1960s, has sat abandoned since Sidcup Leisure Centre opened in nearby Hurst Road in 2008.

The rear of the site was demolished in the same year, but the frontage has remained.

In 2020, plans by Montreaux Build Ltd were approved for 27 flats and a 24-hour gym.

The site will also include undercroft parking, recycling and cycle stores, and will be part four-storey and part five-storey.

A PureGym spokesperson said: “We are excited to be bringing affordable, flexible fitness to Sidcup in late summer 2023.

"With low-cost, zero-contract memberships, we will provide members with an extensive range of equipment and classes to suit everybody’s fitness needs, which they will be able to use at their leisure 24/7.

"We can’t wait to welcome new members through our doors later this year.”
