Bexleyheath Broadway cordoned off after basement fire

A road was cordoned off by police after a blaze in a basement.
The fire started at a builders’ merchants on Bexleyheath Broadway at around 9.30am.
Safety cordons and road closures were put in place while firefighters extinguished the flames.
Crews from Bexley, Plumstead and Erith attended the scene.
Firefighters discovered the source of smoke to be an overheated light fitting.
The road was reopened at 10.18am and no injuries were reported.
