Welling manager Warren Feeney has revealed he’s turned down an approach from another club to remain at Park View Road.

The Wings boss was approached on the eve of their National League South trip to leaders Ebbsfleet on Saturday.

But the 41-year-old, who took over at Welling in mid-March and miraculously steered them to safety, has decided he wants to stay with the Wings.

“I had a phone call yesterday regarding something, (asking) would I have been interested in but I said no because I’m loving my time here,” disclosed Feeney.

“We’ve a project here and I want to stay and build it forward.

“It was one that would probably excite a lot of people but I don’t think it’s right (for me) at this moment in time. My focus is here.

“I’m always honest and people can’t keep secrets these days but the grass isn’t always greener on the other side. I’m enjoying my time here and we have a project, I want to build that together.

“I’ve got great owners, great (players). I know there will come a time when it’s not quite right and the club will come to me but I’ve always said that business is business.

“I’m a loyal person and if you’re enjoying something then I don’t see why you would want to leave.”

Belfast-born Feeney’s managerial CV includes spells at Linfield, Newport and Pirin Blagoevgrad in Bulgaria.

He’s fallen back in love with the game that he became detached from following his spell as assistant boss at Notts County.

“Last year I was wondering where do we go but I said I want to be competitive,” he added.

“I came in for the 10 games but the way they want to go, I am loving it and I want to carry it forward.

“I’m away from my family. I’ve been away for 11 years out of 20 but I’ve got a great wife and kids. It’s football, it’s my job and people don’t always realise how hard it is.

“You don’t want to lose games on purpose but you can’t help it, it’s going to happen, but I can always get up every day and say I give 100 per cent and that’s the enjoyment of being here.

“I took a back step after Notts County and did the yards back home. I lost interest because of the amount of stuff behind the scenes in football.

“I’m always an honest person and if there was something there, I’d always confront it. I got the phone call to go to Bulgaria but I was prepared to take a back step and just do recruitment because I couldn’t take what goes on behind the scenes. I fell in love with it again.”
