Sturry Road McDonald's in Canterbury is set to close

13:50, 04 September 2017

The drive-through McDonald’s on Sturry Road is set to close next February for a “major digital makeover," the Gazette can reveal.

Work will take around six weeks, and will see the store become “more efficient and more modern," according to a McDonald's spokesperson.

The news comes after Thursday saw 1,000 residents pour into the new-look St George’s Street restaurant, which has undergone its very own digital makeover, since closing on July 17.

Lord Mayor Rosemary Doyle took centre stage at 10.30am, cutting the ribbon, before allowing the hungry hordes to descend into the new look eatery.

The Lord Mayor said she hoped people would enjoy what was a “fine restaurant” before praising the hard work of McDonald’s staff.

The £1 million revamp gives customers the chance to order their food via eight interactive menus – with staff making all orders from scratch.

The machines even allow for customised burgers and the chance to have your food delivered to your table.

One member of staff told the Gazette that by midday over 1,000 people had ordered food, and the team, which includes three new members since they closed in July, were happy with the changes.

The worker said: “There are some issues we have to get used to, like table service, but we knew today was a big day and wanted to hit the ground running.

“Once the food is made we make it all from scratch, so we need to be as quick as possible.”
