Kent and England cricketer Joe Denly has become a dad for the second time.

With the first day of the fifth Ashes test coming to an end yesterday evening, the 33-year-old left The Oval in enough time to be with his wife Stacy for the birth of a baby girl.

Canterbury-born Joe, who this morning tweeted a picture announcing the birth, has played all five tests for England at this summer's Ashes and has been the team's fourth highest scoring batsman.

It is thought Stacy Denly was in the early stages of labour while Joe was batting, but he did not want to be informed while he was in the middle opening the innings.

He has missed this morning's play but is making his way back to the ground as he hopes to help England tie the series.

Scoring 14 runs yesterday, his best innings came in the fourth test at Old Trafford when he surpassed a half-century for the second time and reaching 53.

It's not the first time the Canterbury-born batsman has been at the crease imminently before his wife has given birth.

In May 2016, he retired batting for Kent in order to be at the birth of his son.

Joe is a legend at Whitstable cricket club, with the Belmont ground being where it all began for the international star.
