Herne Bay man Bradley Day locked up for sexual abuse after grabbing girl of 14 in street
00:01, 10 February 2014
A young man sexually abused a 14-year-old schoolgirl after grabbing her in the street.
Bradley Day, 18, had been out in Herne Bay in the summer of 2012 when he saw the girl talking with friends.
Canterbury Crown Court heard he grabbed his victim in a fireman's lift and smacked her bottom.
Prosecutor Martin Yale said Day put his victim down and the girl ran away – with her attacker running after her.
He caught up with her and began his assault, which ended only when the victim pretended she was going to be sick to make her attacker stop.
"She asked you to stop but you began to touch her sexually. She was left crying and went back to her friends..." - Judge Adele Williams
Now Day, of Collins Road, has been sent to a young offenders' institution for three years and four months after admitting the sexual assault.
Day had initially claimed he saw his victim in the street and went to help because he thought she was drunk.
Judge Adele Williams told him: "You saw her in the street and literally picked her up off the ground.
"She asked you to stop but you began to touch her sexually. She was left crying and went back to her friends.
"She was in pain and bleeding."
In victim impact statements sent to the judge, the girl and her mother revealed the "traumatic effects" the incident has had on the family.
Judge Williams told Day: "A psychiatric report says you are immature but in my opinion you knew what you were doing was wrong.
“You could have stopped but you didn’t.
"But you have now started on the journey of thinking what it must have been like to be in the position of your victim."
