One of Kent's top attractions has announced free evening entry from this month.

Visitors will be able to stroll through Canterbury Cathedral's picturesque grounds free of charge between 5pm and 9pm daily, starting next week.

The Cathedral - part of a World Heritage Site, and one of the world's most famous religious buildings - charges £14 for entry to its grounds and buildings, with last entry at 4pm.

But from Wednesday, visitors will be able to enjoy walking in the south side precincts for free between 5pm and when the Cathedral's curfew bell sounds at 9pm.

The free evening entry is open to individuals and families only - with no group visits or guided visits permitted.

Though the Cathedral building itself will be closed - with last admission for visitors at 4pm - visitors are invited to attend the daily choral evensong service at 5.30pm.

The move comes after the Cathedral temporarily opened its grounds for free during the coronavirus pandemic, to give people the opportunity to enjoy its quiet open spaces.

The new free evening entry is a pilot project, which the Cathedral says will be reviewed during half-term.
