A neglected cat who lost an eye after her former owners failed to take her to the vet is looking for a new home.

Bella, the grey tabby, came to be at Canterbury’s RSPCA animal centre after untreated glaucoma caused her eyeball to burst.

The five-year-old moggy had to undergo surgery to remove the damaged organ and now only has partial sight in the other eye.

A spokesperson for Canterbury RSPCA said: “This is by far one of the worst eye neglect cases we have seen in a decade.

“She has come from a complicated past in a home which experienced domestic violence and where her medical needs were not attended to.

“Despite all the trauma she is a delightful girl, super friendly and content and loves her meal times.

“She’s a firm favourite here and we are so glad she has healed well from the surgery and is ready to take her next steps toward finding a purrfect new home before Christmas.”

The RSPCA shared “super friendly” Bella’s story on social media to help find her a loving home and received a huge response, with more than 200 people liking the post.

Bella was suffering with glaucoma in both of her eyes but she was brought in just in time to save one.

Her new owners will need to keep a close watch on her remaining peeper for deterioration.

The RSPCA says it is confident Bella will be in her forever home in time for Christmas.

A spokesman told KentOnline: “We have someone coming to visit her this afternoon which could be a purrfect match! Paws crossed.”
