09:45, 04 June 2023

A garden chiminea is believed to have been the cause of a fire which saw a garden shed go up in flames.

Firefighters were called to a property in Deansway Avenue, Canterbury, in the early hours of this morning following reports the wooden structure was alight.

Two fire engines attended shortly after 3am and crews extinguished the flames using a hose reel jet.

No injuries were reported as a result of the blaze, which also spread to an air conditioning unit.

Kent Fire and Rescue Service (KFRS) believes the fire started after the chiminea was placed too close to the shed and caused it to catch alight.

A spokesman for KFRS said: “Firefighters are reminding people to ensure any outdoor fire, such as fire pits, chimineas and barbecues, are fully out and cooled before being left unattended, and to position them well away from any property, greenery, and fencing.”
