Popular accessory chain Claire’s is set to move into a new high street site - months after ditching its previous long-standing shop nearby.
A bid has been launched by the firm to open a new store in the space vacated by Pandora three months ago in The Parade, Canterbury.
It has lodged plans with the city council to move into the empty premises, having last summer decided to leave its previous home next to McDonald’s in St George’s Street.
Lib Dem leader Cllr Michael Dixey has welcomed the chain’s re-entrance to the city, telling KentOnline: “Of course any business coming into the city is welcome and appreciated.
“And when a global chain comes along, it can only be a good thing.
“We’re working very hard in the council to keep Canterbury vibrant and active, and will continue to welcome businesses and fresh ideas with open arms.”
Pandora moved from the site - which is wedged between Iconic Jewellery and Natwest - in October, as it relocated to Whitefriars.
And when Claire's left its long-term city base a few months before, it was swiftly replaced by Chinese eatery Chopstix.
Papers submitted to the local authority show jewellery chain wants to install new fittings, lighting and signage before opening its new shop to the public.
Its bid to return to Canterbury has bucked a recent trend of restaurants moving into city high street stores.
American fast-food chain Taco Bell started trading out of the old Jigsaw clothing retailer site next to Lush before the new year.
This came after Tortilla, a South American-style restaurant, welcomed its first customers in November through its doors at the old Sta Travel unit next to Pizza Hut.
Claire's has been contacted for further comment.
