Two men have appeared in court accused of killing a man found wrapped in cling film.
Richard Bowler, 35, and David Connor, 22, of Sturry Road, Canterbury, stood in the dock at Folkestone magistrates yesterday charged with the manslaughter of Alun Williams.
The 47-year-old was found dead in Connor’s flat above a hairdressers’ on August 20 last year after what is believed to have been a sex game gone wrong.
A large-scale police operation was launched, with forensics officers swarming the area to gather evidence.
Bowler and Connor were initially arrested on suspicion of the murder of Mr Williams, but following a six-month investigation by officers from the Kent and Essex Serious Crime Directorate, they were charged with manslaughter last month.
Bowler and Connor moved to Sturry Road from Dover in September after Mr Williams’ death.
Connor is a carer for Bowler, who suffers from cerebral palsy.
It is thought they called 999 after the death of Mr Williams at the flat in East Street, Dover.
Mr Williams – who lived with his girlfriend in Shepherdswell – worked as a chef at P&O Ferries for 30 years and worked on trips between Dover and Calais.
At the time of his death, a spokesman for the ferry firm said: “We were obviously desperately sad to hear of Alun’s death and reported it to colleagues shortly after we heard.
“He was very well known, working for us as a head chef, and our thoughts are with his family and friends.”
Bowler and Connor were bailed and will appear at Maidstone Crown Court on April 25.
