A blaze broke out in a kitchen after cooking oil caught alight.
Fire crews on two engines were sent to a flat in Parham Road, Canterbury yesterday lunchtime.
Wearing breathing apparatus, they entered the building and used jets to extinguish the fire.
Crews then used a ventilation fan to clear the smoke and fumes from the property.
There were no reports of injuries and the cause is thought to be accidental.
They left the scene at 1.20pm.
Kent Fire and Rescue Service also dealt with a fire in Whitstable yesterday lunchtime, after a blaze broke out in a fish and chip shop.
